On Sunday the 28th of October my family and I drove to the base of Mt Kakepuku. We were all excited to climb the mountain. We got out of the car and started to walk up there. Looking up ahead we climbed over the fence and through the long grass up to the actual mountain. Even though we were’nt on the part where we had to do the actual hiking we were still getting very tired. Clearly that means we’re unfit. There was still another fence to climb in front of us and then there was the track. When we got on the track, we had to work to get up on the first little bit. It was very steep and bumpy. We would walk for about a minute and then rest for about three. This was very continuous until we got around to one third of the mountain. After that we started hiking for longer and having shorter breaks. Quite a few people were coming down and we knew that there would be so many people because of all the cars that we saw down the bottom. The track was cool because of all the beautiful scenery that was inside but it was also very muddy. When we were climbing up there, my thighs and calf muscles were burning and aching but I was determined to get to the top. We knew that we were near the top because people were coming down and telling us that we were. When we got to the top, it was great. We walked through the long grass and up to the tower. The stairs were steep but I wanted to see the view. When you are on the top but not on the tower you can’t see a thing because the trees on the mountain are in the way. On the tower we saw all the surrounding mountains and farms. We also saw Te Awamutu and Kihikihi. It was amazing. When we were done looking at the view, we had to start walking down the mountain. My legs were wobbly like jelly as we tried to get down. I slipped over a few times but I was fine. It took us longer then I thought to get down but eventually we made it. I had alot of fun and I am going to do it again next year.
